Fantastic weather and gold balloons rising up into the deep blue sky before the starting pistol sounded – the backdrop for the 10th Hensel Recycling Churfranken Triathlon could hardly have been more beautiful.
More than 700 sportsmen and women were at the starting line of the anniversary triathlon on 15 July 2018. 21 came from within the ranks of Hensel Recycling, three of them even started in the “Olympic” category.
The elite discipline – Olympic distances of 1.5 km swimming, 44 km cycling and 10 km running – was won as in previous years by Tim Bräutigam from TSG Kleinostheim. Dana Wagner from the GGU-Software team won the women’s event.
Even the Hensel Recycling relay teams and individual participants demonstrated impressive achievements. Crossing the finish line was particularly special for Steffen Graetsch and Sebastian Hensel who had travelled from the international facilities in the USA and the UK to take part. Together they ran the last 3.5 kilometres side by side to cross the finish line at the same time. Mirko Duesmann celebrated his début as an individual participant in the sprint by winning the internal cup. The most successful relay team comprised Reinhard Becker, Stefan Popp and Valéri Bojarski.
Large numbers of visitors – including many Hensel Recycling employees who were also there with their families – cheered on the triathletes in the individual stages. Having finally reached the finish line, the endurance athletes were able to celebrate their success with fantastic music. Disco, funk, soul – the party band Honeyground had it all! So the atmosphere in the Hensel Recycling tent was amazing.
We would like to thank Paul Dwehus for organising the event so successfully as always, and congratulate all participants for their amazing sporting achievements. Thank you too to all the helpers for their support before, during and after the event.
